Mirae Asset Global Discovery Fund (the “Fund”) as an umbrella fund under UCITS regulations has within it different sub-funds (the “Sub-Funds”) investing mainly in equities and equity related securities, each with a different risk profile.
Some Sub-Funds may invest in emerging markets that should be regarded as having a higher level of illiquidity and volatility than investing in developed countries. Investors may suffer loss of the entire amount invested.
Some Sub-Funds may invest in single markets or specific sectors subject to higher concentration risk and liquidity risk than other funds with a diversified portfolio of investments.
The investment decision is yours. You should not invest in the Sub-Funds unless the intermediary who recommends them to you has advised you that the Sub-Funds are suitable for you and has explained to you why, including how investment in the Sub-Funds are consistent with your investment objectives.

Ever since our inception, we have been constant in our steadfast advocacy and commitment to the world’s emerging markets. We strongly believe that the world’s developing countries will become the main drivers of global economic growth in the future.
Therefore, our products and investment solutions have a strong focus on the world’s fastest-growing emerging markets. Our assets are invested across Asia Pacific, Latin America, CEE (Central and Eastern Europe) and the MEA (Middle East and Africa). China, Hong Kong, Korea, India, Brazil and Russia are the countries which we invest most heavily in.
We also invest to a lesser extent in the developed markets such as the United States, Western Europe and Japan. However, even in these markets, our focus is on sectors and companies whose future growth is strongly linked to the emerging markets.
It has always been our aim to become the world’s foremost experts in the emerging markets. As the one of the largest investors in emerging market equities[1], and with one of the largest team of professionals involved in emerging market equities[2] , we believe we are reaching our goal.
We manage USD 52.8 billion in assets. Around 35.8% of our assets are invested in emerging market equities. The remaining 64.2% are invested in other types including fixed income, money market funds and alternative investments such as real estate and private equity.[3]
There are 29 portfolio managers and analysts in Hong Kong covering the main sectors and countries of the Asia Pacific region[4]. Our investment professionals work closely with counterparts in other Mirae Asset investment and research centers around the world. For example, we have a Global Emerging Market Research Team, comprising senior researchers and analysts working in 5 global locations. The members carry out company visits and on-the-ground research to provide our portfolio managers with high conviction stock ideas.
We offer a diverse range of investment products for institutional, retail, and private investors.

A mutual fund is an investment scheme that pools the money from investors. This money is then invested in stocks, bonds and other types of asset classes. The investing is carried out by a dedicated investment professional called the fund manager.
Investors in mutual funds own shares in the fund, which represent a portion of the fund’s underlying assets. Open-ended mutual funds allow new shares to be created in the fund and existing shares to be cancelled (or redeemed).
The main benefits of investing in mutual funds include the following:
Diversification:
A mutual fund spreads its pooled assets across a diverse range of investments. This reduces risk, as losses that stem from one particular investment that performed badly can be minimized by gains in others that performed well. Most individuals lack the resources to effectively diversify their investments in this way. Therefore, they are exposed to risks that mutual funds can mitigate.
Professional Management:
The assets of a mutual fund are invested by dedicated investment professionals called fund managers. Non-professionals often lack the time and expertise to invest their money effectively. By investing in a mutual fund, individual investors are effectively hiring trained professionals to manage their money and to monitor the performance of their investments on a daily basis.
Efficiency:
Buying and selling stocks can be an expensive and time consuming process. As well as this, hiring the services of a professional money manager is beyond the reach of many individual investors. However, by pooling assets, a mutual fund has greater buying power and is thus able to save on transaction costs.
Liquidity:
One strong benefit of mutual funds is that they are very liquid investments. Investors can convert their investments into cash very quickly by redeeming their shares. You can buy and sell shares in most mutual funds at any time and prices are quoted on business days. Increasing or decreasing your holding in mutual funds can be done with very little fuss.
There are different levels of risk according to the type of mutual fund that you invest in. For example, there are certain risks with investing in a specific country, sector or stock.
However, it is important to know that mutual funds are long-term investments that generally offer higher rates of return the longer the investor holds them. Before purchasing shares of a mutual fund, it is important that the investor understands the level of risk that they are capable of managing and be sure that the fund meets those needs and expectations.
SICAV is an acronym for Société d'Investissement À Capital Variable. These are open-ended collective investment schemes, popular in Western European countries such as France, Luxembourg, Italy, Switzerland and Belgium. As SICAV funds are open-ended, they allow its investors (or shareholders) to redeem their shares at any time under normal circumstances. Also, the funds are organized like any other legal entity or company, meaning that each has a board of directors to oversee the fund, shareholders have voting rights and general meetings are held every year.
The SICAV fund offered by Mirae Asset Global Investments (HK) Limited is called the Mirae Asset Global Discovery Fund. This fund was incorporated in Luxembourg in 2008 and focuses its investments in emerging market equities. Organized under an “umbrella” structure, it is comprised of a growing number of different sub-funds. Investors are able to choose between one or more of the different sub-funds that comprise this fund.
The sub-funds in the Mirae Asset Global Discovery Fund range comprise of equity funds that invest in the emerging markets such as China, India and Korea. We also offer sub-funds that invest in regional industries and sectors. A complete list can be found here.
